Tax Incentives for IT Investments!

As part of its economic stimulus measures, the 2009 Canadian federal budget contains a temporary provision for business computers & software to be fully written off in the first year. A temporary 100% CCA rate for eligible computers & software acquired between January 27, 2009 & February 2011 will now be in effect. This enhanced rate will not be subject to the rule that allows half the CCA write-off otherwise available in the year the asset is first available for use. Therefore, businesses can fully deduct the cost of eligible computers & the system’s software in the first year that CCA deductions are available.

Fire Safety in the Workplace

In our ongoing program to maintain a disaster & recovery plan, WebSan Solutions Inc recently held a fire safety training session for all employees.  WebSan takes all necessary measures to ensure client data is secure & easily recoverable in the event of an emergency.  During training, employees were taught fire extinguishers techniques, appropriate escape routes & other fire safety tips. The training proved to be an eye-opening experience for many.  As such, we would like to share a few helpful tips learned to ensure you stay safe in the event of an emergency at your work:

  • Have a plan - Make sure everyone knows all the safest exit routes & meeting places once out of the building.
  • Understand your extinguishers & know where they are – Valuable seconds can be wasted during an emergency searching for extinguishers.
  • Designate Roles - Assign someone to perform a headcount & call 911.  Everyone has the role of shouting to alert others, checking all safe parts of the building & helping those who need assistance.
  • Eliminate Hazards - Make sure exits are kept clear & kitchen areas clean.
  • Stay Calm – Most people panic during emergencies.  Staying calm helps to avoid dangerous mistakes.

Reviewing and practicing the above can go a long way to ensure your safety both at home & in the office. For more information on Fire Safety Training, contact David Hollet of the Keane Hollett Group at dhollett@keanehollettgroup.com
